Local authorities

Eco-friendly recycling - for a clean environment

Local authorities are not allowed to collect electronic equipment in domestic waste or bulk refuse. This is specified in the Regulation on the Return, Take-Back and Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (VREG). However, they may collect this type of equipment separately. Local authorities have the following options:

1. No collection of electronic equipment
If the local authority chooses not to collect electronic equipment, it may post notices in the waste calendar, which explains that such equipment must be handed in to dealers, stores or the nearest official SWICO Recycling collection point, and that handing-in is free of charge.

2. Periodic collections
The local authority may arrange collection days on certain dates, for example combined with the collection of special waste. In addition, it has two options:

1. It can instruct SWICO Recycling to organise collection and recycling free of charge by using the Collection Day Electronic Equipment for Local Authorities form.

2. It can periodically collect equipment that has been handed in at the official SWICO Recycling collection point.

3. Dedicated collection point
An existing collection point in a local authority area can be registered as an official SWICO Recycling collection point for electronic equipment. This option is worthwhile for local authorities whose annual collection quantity exceeds 5 tonnes of electronic equipment. SWICO Recycling provides pallets, and collection and recycling are free of charge.
